You know how some people can just rub you the wrong way? You know what I’m talking about, don’t you? You see them coming, and you know they’re going to talk forever, and it’s going to drive you nuts. Your mind races with ways to avoid another conversation with them. Your thinking to yourself, “Can’t they just find someone else to talk with?”Let’s face it, all of us have been there and we all know a person in our life that fits that description. So…what do you do? Allow me to share 3 thoughts.

1. You are THAT PERSON to someone else. (Booh-Ya!)

There are people who see you coming and think to themselves, “Can’t they just find someone else to talk with?” That’s correct…you are not the center of the universe, and you are not perfect either.

2. Instead of thinking they are coming to you again, think of them as being sent to you again.

God is always at work, and He is in all things. Instead of trying to figure a way out of the conversation, try to find where God is working in their life, and help them see it.

3. God might be sending them to change you, instead of you changing them. (Just saying.)

Sometimes, God uses people we don’t click with to change a click in us.  I’ve learned that instead of worrying about the other person, I should be asking myself, What’s in me that makes me want to run the other way when I see this person coming? I think if all of us would slow down, and do that one little thing, we might just find the trouble is really with us, and maybe not with them.

You heard me right! I can’t stand that guy! I know him well. That guy is ME. I’m the guy that from time to time gets his eyes so focused on the success of others, that I can’t see clearly or hear clearly what God wants me to do next. I can look at and study the creativity of others so intensely sometimes that I lose the very creativity that God has placed in my own life. I’m convinced I get in my way more often than any other person or ministry does.

So, what are the things I do when I notice that that guy want to take over again?

1. Take a Sabbatical from reading twitter, Facebook and blogs (e.g. a day, a few days, a week)

2. Write down every creative thought (Whispers of God to my heart) on a legal pad while I’m praying

3. Embrace again the truth that God is the author of my life and wants to be creative through me.

4. Act on those whispers regardless of the outcome.

I believe there is a big difference between learning from the creativity of others and trusting in the creativity that God has placed in you. Yes, creativity is in you. The creator God has placed it there because you are His treasure chest.

What are some things you do when that guy you can’t stand shows up?
