Guilt is nurtured when you persistently think about how badly you’ve sinned. The enemy of your life and soul takes great pleasure and even delight in reminding you of failures you’ve committed in the past. He loves to pull your mind over the smoke and fire of your past and let you cook in torment. Your enemy specializes in extreme condemnation that builds a wall between you and the beautiful mercy and Grace of God. If you allow you enemy that kind of control he will take all of your heart and mind you will give him.
I learned early on in my walk with Christ that there is a big difference between condemnation and conviction. Condemnation is birthed from the enemy and has a goal of breaking you down spiritually and seeks to wear down your trust in God. On the other hand, conviction is a beautiful God thing. Conviction, in the bible, produces a Godly sorrow free from the guilt that pushes you into self-punishment. Godly sorrow leads to repentance, it leads to the loving arms of Christ.
You must remind yourself today that God truly wants to forgive you…completely! He knows no other way to forgive. He is not a halfway forgiving God. You must embrace that truth and apply it by faith. You must close your ears to the voice of the enemy and listen with the gift of grace God has given you to hear Him say upon your confession of sin…”I forgive you.”
1 John 1:9 reminds us, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness.” I love that word “ALL.” No matter what, no matter how bad you have messed up…when you give it to God and ask for forgiveness, He forgives “ALL.”
Know this! Conviction leads to repentance and repentance brings the blood of Jesus to wash away your guilt and sin. While Condemnation screams about your past and show you no answer at all but only your problem.
So what is the take away?
Embrace the truth that your past sins have been forgiven. In Christ you are clean. Change your thinking from dwelling on the past and refocus your thinking on knowing you are forgiving and that you are a new person in Christ. Move forward because that is the way God is heading. You need to forgive yourself because Jesus has. You need to release yourself form the bondage of guilt because Jesus has. Walk free today because He is not a halfway forgiving God.
