Just Off The Edge Of The…

June 26, 2012 — Leave a comment

I once heard a story about a student, who while taking an exam, spent hours drawing a diagram on his test sheet. He finally came to the end and had no room to finish the answer-though he knew what the answer was. The professor, after looking at the test spoke to another professor and said with a smile, “I guess the answer is just off the edge of the paper.”

I just finished up a study of the book of Acts at the Ruth’s Chris bible study I do each Tuesday here in Charlotte. It took over two years going line by line…what a grand journey it was. When I first started the study, I began by taking them to the very end of the book of Acts, which is no ending at all. I’ve told the group over and over that the book doesn’t end because God is still writing His story though each of them. God’s story through each of them is the answer just off the edge of the paper.

Luke tells us that Paul’s journey, has come to an end, however, his end is where you and I must begin.

Acts 28: 30-31 tells us,

30 He lived there two whole years at his own expense, and welcomed all who came to him, 31 proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.

Living your life just off the edge of the paper is about announcing with our daily lives that Christ is Lord and that the kingdom of God is about God ruling in the here and now. Jesus is not a distant deity. He is alive by the power of the Holy Spirit on the inside of us. We are the temple of God.

We carry the power of God on the inside of us that causes us to walk as sacred spaces everywhere we go. We bring the presence of God into every place our shoes tread. We are called to pick up the story Paul gifted us with and carry on until Christ comes again.

Where the book of Acts ends…your story begins-just off the edge of the paper
